Neural Manipulation

What is neural manipulation?

What is neural manipulation?

What is neural manipulation?

"Neural" pertains to the body's intricate nervous system, encompassing the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. This intricate network serves as a vital communication pathway within the body. When it experiences dysfunction, it can lead to discomfort and diminished function. Neural Manipulation, abbreviated as NM, detects localized nerve restrictions and fixation, assessing their impact on the overall body. The gentle application of NM techniques reinstates communication within the body, enhancing its capacity to adapt and facilitate a return to optimal health.

Since each individual's circumstances are unique, the frequency of visits will differ. Some individuals may notice substantial improvements after three to five therapy sessions, while others might need ongoing treatment. Your practitioner will collaborate with you to establish a customized plan based on your specific requirements and how your body reacts to the therapy.

Neural Manipulation (NM) is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy. Often, the root cause of pain or a medical condition lies within a compensatory pattern that the body has developed, which may be quite distant from where the pain is actually felt. Consequently, the practitioner diligently seeks out this pattern and its source, subsequently addressing the relevant tissues. The treatment involves precise and gentle techniques to engage, mobilize, and elongate soft tissues, with a particular focus on the nerves. As the underlying issue is addressed and resolved, symptoms typically begin to diminish. It's important to note that the response and reaction time to each Neural Manipulation treatment can vary.

Nerve dysfunction

What can NM help with?

What is a session like?

In the human body, the proper function of nerves depends on their ability to move freely within their surrounding tissues. Nerves can become "fixed" or dysfunctional for various reasons, including physical trauma, surgeries, a sedentary lifestyle, infections, environmental pollutants, poor diet, bad posture, and even pregnancy and childbirth. When a nerve becomes "fixed," it loses its capacity to glide and stretch as we move, leading to sensitivity, pain, and a decline in overall health.

Optimal health hinges on the harmonious coordination of different bodily systems, including the nervous system, organs, their supportive tissues, and other structures. When a nerve becomes fixed in one area, the body compensates elsewhere, resulting in disharmony. This disharmony leads to broader restrictions, abnormal tension points, and chronic irritation, which, over time, can contribute to functional and structural issues in various systems, such as musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urinary, respiratory, and digestive systems, among others.

Neural Manipulation (NM) therapists specialize in identifying specific nerve fixations and their broader impacts on the body. By skillfully applying gentle and precise NM techniques, the patient's body gradually becomes less constrained by dysfunctional patterns, allowing it to move toward a more optimal state of health.

History

What can NM help with?

Jean-Pierre Barral is an Osteopath and Registered Physical  Therapist from France. He initially developed Visceral  Manipulation, a manual therapy focusing on the internal organs  of the body, which he began teaching in the United States in  1985. In addition, Jean-Pierre Barral, DO, MRO(F), RPT and Alain  Croibier, DO also an Osteopath from France, began to further  study trauma and the consequence of trauma on tissues of the  body. They discovered that any trauma to the body impacts and  elicits a reaction from the entire Nervous System.  As a result, they developed therapy techniques specific to the  Nervous System, which lead to “Neural Manipulation” being  taught in the United States beginning in 1999.  Since then, Barral and Croibier have trained practitioners around  the world in their Neural Manipulation techniques.
